Unfortunately, if that does not resolve the issue, to get Windows 8 drivers for that component, you would have to wait to see if HP provides drivers for Windows 8 (seems unlikely at this point). The options you have would be to wait, get an external card reader compatible with Windows 8, or revert back to Windows 7. Windows 7 seems to have been the OS that came with your computer. There wasn't an item as you suggested under 'disk drives' - but after rebooting the notebook with the SD Card inserted, I can now see an SD Host Adaptor ('SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller'). However, when I look at 'This PC' (I am on Windows 10) via File Explorer, I still cannot see anything that looks like an SD drive listed. I'm back to square one. All I want to do is format an SD card (and a Micro SD card via an adapter) via the slot in the Notebook- but it seems not to be possible.

Based on the above and other problem reports, it appears that Dell, Asus, and Lenovo are not updating their SD drivers. I could not find a new driver on the Dell site and found a note indicating that there was no intention to update the driver for my XPS.

What did Microsoft do in Windows 10 to discourage these manufacturers from updating their SD reader drivers? There are 2 options I am aware of: use the Win 10 option to back out the upgrade and go back to the last OS, or buy a new external card reader that plugs into a USB port [and live without the built-in card slot].
